    Respected/ importers of food

Asharqia Chamber presents its best greetings to you, and would like to inform you of the receipt of the letter of the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (No. 69297 / AS) dated 18/11 / 1439H, which pointed out that the SFDA noted that importers of food did not comply with the requirements of the GCC / Saudi Standard Technical Regulations (GSO: 323) "General requirements for the transport and storage of refrigerated and frozen food."

In the fulfilling the public interest and in the interests of food safety, which is therefore reflected in the health and safety of the consumer, and in order to preserve national capital and to avoid the exposure of refrigerated and frozen food consignments for lack of permission to vacate, the SFDA would like to inform all concerned importers of refrigerated and frozen food to note that they will not authorize the release of refrigerated and frozen food consignments, unless they meet the requirements of "GSO 322" (General requirements for the transport and storage of refrigerated and frozen food).

To be more specific, the following items should be observed in the mode of transport:

    - Article #(4/2/4) that states, "the means of transport (containers) shall be provided with a temperature scale that gives a representative reading of the temperature of the charging space, and the indicator shall be in a place that is easy to read from outside."

    - Article #(4/2/5) that states, "the means of transport (containers) shall be provided with a registrar of the temperature for registration on a continuous basis, and that the data shall be kept for a period of time for reference."

-Article #(4/2/11) that states, "the containers shall be disposed of in a regular manner that does not affect the distribution of air and shall be proven to avoid mechanical damage".

-Article 3(4/2/12) that states, "the ice used for refrigerating in the means of transport shall be identical to 'GSO: 384' (ice for human consumption) with sufficient quantity to maintain the required temperature and stay in the means of transport until the end of the trip and during the loading and unloading."
